Who is the King?


The corona virus pandemic has come as a surprise to most of the countries in the world. The people of the planet never expected in their wildest dream about the impact of this pandemic.

At an individual level, I, never in my widest dream, could measure the impact of the virus. Now that the waves of the virus has reached our country, we have left with nothing than to embrace it, but we are very proud and lucky to have taken a human's life in this beautiful country.

The giants of the world may not know us, but the way our visionary king is fighting the pandemic, will be and must be remembered in the history of the world. When the leaders of the so called the developed nations are guiding from the safety of their office or home, our king is out making sure every citizen is protected and not a single stone is left unturned in the fight against the virus. Can you name another leader like him in the world?

Logically, a new father is supposed to be around his wife and new baby tending and loving them for they require the father's love at that point, but His Majesty the king left home Her Majesty the Gyaltshuen and our two lovely Gyalseys for the people. He had no time to celebrate the birth of his new baby, neither he could be near the Gyaltshuen to comfort her. Tell us world, is there any king or for that matter, any leader who is fighting the virus like our king does? This is why we proudly say that he is not just the king of a nation but the HOPE and FUTURE that we can look at. He is our GOD and PROTECTOR who puts himself in the front for his people. Can you name another leader like him in the world?

We have a king who has given up everything for the benefit of the nation and his people. While other nations built expensive mansions for their leader, our king has given up his royal guest house which has become the isolation ward and will later be turned into mother and child hospital. Can you name another leader like him the world?

While leaders of the world are hidden away from the virus, our king is out into the most risky areas even without a mask. He is there to plant confidence and assurance in people that they are safe no matter what happens. Can you name another leader like him in the world?

When the world is running out of ideas, our kings made sure every person in the nation is safe irrespective of his or her nationality. It was very touching when HE the Prime Minister announced that His Majesty was concerned about the American tourist who was detected positive on 5th March. His majesty commanded the government to provide the best care to him. Can you name another leader like him in the world?

When we enjoy the comfort of our homes, His Majesty is leading a team of Royal Bhutan Army and VTI trainees building hopes for the people who were called home before anything unthinkable happen. His Majesty knew how these people felt, thus proving that he is more than a king. Can you name another leader like him in the world?

The people across the planet are complaining of being mistreated but it is a very different story here. His Majesty sends his officials every day to make sure the people are safe and to listen to their problem and concerns. He makes sure his subjects are safe. Can you name another leader like him in the world?

When the leaders of the world are busy playing blame game, our king silently braves all the odds. He is leading the nation like no other. His Majesty is out of his home never uttering a word on others let alone blame. Can you name another leader like him in the world?

With all these being done by His Majesty for us, we feel we are the kings and the queens. We feel we have sent out someone to do all these works while we enjoy at home pretending to be worried about the pandemic.

At this point of juncture, i promise the deities of the land that i will serve the Tsa-Wa-Sum with my utmost dedication till my breath can hold me. I feel guilty for not being able to do anything for my father- THE DRUK GYALPO.

The Taag Lhakhang

 There is a small one-storied lhakhang about 200 meters from the Thangbi Lhakhang. The author could not authenticate the name of the lhakhang but the locals call it as Taag Lhakhang. It is not known whether Taag refers to the horse or the tiger (In Dzognkha). The lhakhang was built by Lam Ngopa, a great Tibetan master in 14th century. Pemi Tshewang Tashi’s obedience in the context of Hierarchical and social Fabric of the Bhutanese Society. During the medieval era in Bhutan, different regions were ruled by lords called Penlops and zongpons. The three penlops were of Tongsa, Daga and Paro and the three Zongpons were of Thimphu, Wangdi and Punakha. They were roughly equal in ranks yet all yearned to become the Tongsa penlop for it was very coveted unlike other lords. Luck and the Kharam Shing

 Luck is what we think we deserve to have every time but it is otherwise. People seek interference of seen and unseen forces in hope to have the tinniest fraction of luck. Luck, in laymen term can be defined as absence of bad things happening. according to Chophel (2018),  Kharam means ‘together,’ reflective of the event’s communal nature. It is believed to have evolved from a Bön ritual, and includes a particular wooden structure marked by a phallus.
